mandiesdisneyblog asked: Hello there! I am a film/journalism student of sorts, and I just decided (after several years of fighting in my head) that I want to apply my strong points to Fashion. Do you have any tips on the industry or schooling. I notice that you specialize your blogs on the History of Fashion and I LOVE that. So I'm very glad to have located your blog. Do you also go into the History of 20th century fashions or only the 1800s?
My blog pretty much covers all women’s fashion prior to 1970. I do have an affinity towards Victorian and late 18th century fashion though.
I am about to start my last semester as a fashion design major! I am so excited but nervous. First and foremost you have to be passionate about the industry. It will take over your life. As far as getting a job after graduation its all about experience, experience, experience. You will probably have several (unpaid) internships before you can think of getting a paid job. Another major part of being successful in fashion is networking. Most internships and jobs you’ll get will be because you knew someone who knew someone. From what I can tell it is a close knit and relatively small community (at least it feels that way) so if you make a few connections early in your career you will open up many opportunities for yourself. I hope this helps a little. It is probably advice you heard before but it’s what I hear over and over. GOOD LUCK!
